We will be in Dublin for several days and would like to go to the Waterford factory. I do not want to rent a car and am hoping there is a tour that will fill the bill. I haven't found such a tour with my web search. Any ideas?
If you are talking about the crystal factory it went out of business a few years ago.
Trains from Dublin to Waterford take 2.5 hours each way; see www.irishrail.ie for schedules and to purchase tickets (cheaper than in the station, even on the day of travel). Since Google Maps indicates about 2 hours driving time, an organized bus tour is not likely to be any faster. The smaller-scale Waterford crystal factory and visitor center that re-opened in 2010 still gets a 2-star rating from Rick (on a scale of 0-3), as does the one-hour old-town walking tour that leaves from the TI at mid-day.
Thank you Laura. Is this smaller factory within walking distance from the train station?
