Looking for stop between Belfast and Dublin, also lunch spot in Adare

We are 5 adults traveling in October and have an extra time traveling from Belfast to Dublin and looking for an interesting stop along the way. Nothing too physical as 2 are 80 yrs old.
Also, looking for recommendation for lunch in Adare.

You don't say if it will be an overnight stop but there are numerous sights in the Boyne Valley that could be a day stop or overnight. Hill of Tara, Trim Castle, Newgrange, some abbeys.

Just across the border as you head south from Belfast is the village of Carlingford - a picturesque little place on a pretty Lough featuring an old Priory, the ruins of King John's Castle, and part of an old city wall and gate dating from the 12th century ... built to keep the Vikings out. We enjoyed wandering around so much we extended our stay from a quick pitstop to a few hours. The pedestrian friendly (and level) main street has several inviting little tea rooms for lunch that your group might enjoy.
Can Google it to see if it might be of interest.

Adare is a lovely place for lunch and there are several places to visit that would not require too much walking. There is a Heritage Center which includes a car parking area. It is near the Holy Trinity Abbey Church on Main Street across the street from the thatched roof cottages. There is a cafe and gift shop in the Heritage Center. We ate at a cafe called The Good Room which is also a bakery. The cafe is on Main Street just past a group of thatched cottages. There are several restaurants located in this area. On Main Street in the same area is a lovely park and the church and church grounds would be other options you could visit.
