Looking for advice about travel from Dublin to Rock of Cashel?

We’d like to do a day trip from Dublin to visit Rock of Cashel. We don’t want to rent a car. What do people recommend as the best way to get back and forth from there?

I would do this independently because you’d also get a glimpse of the towns of Limerick & Tipperary. Trains reach Tipperary in about 1:50 from Dublin’s Heuston train station. They first will stop in Limerick, where you’ll see the 13th-century King John’s castle. From Tipperary, the quickest buses go to Cashel in 30 minutes. Taxis take about 20 minutes.

Kenko's advice is bad.

There are only a couple of trains a day from Limerick to Waterford via Tipperary.

The only train for a day trip you change at Limerick Junction (nowhere near Limerick city), leave at 0800, arrive 0953.
The next and last train is at 1754, arrive Dublin 2001.
Instead use Bus Eireann #245X from Dublin at 0800 or 1200 for the 2 hour journey, returning at 1334, 1532 or 1940.

Or the 1408 or 1608 to Cork for trains back to Dublin.

Or use TfI local link 855 from Limerick Junction at 1140 arrive 1235, returns at 1235, 1417 and 1645.

There is also bus #332 for the 2 hour ride from Limerick city to Cashel, - from Limerick at noon, from Cashel at 1130 and 1430.
There is also a #394 to Thurles (for trains to Dublin) at 1535.
