Long Layover in Dublin

We just got an e-mail regarding some up coming flights saying that what was going to be a 45min layover in Dublin will now me a 6+ hour layover. So we are wondering if it would be worth it for us to leave the airport and do a little sight seeing. Would we have time see anything or do we just hang around the airport? Thanks for any insights!

Would suppose that you could work out some sort of arrangement with a taxi driver to do a couple of circuits around the city and still get you back to the airport in time to make your connection. Can research possible routes and attractions in advance, or just ask them to drive the route of the HoHo buses which already covers the highlights. The driver would probably be quite happy to provide a running commentary, in true Irish fashion, so you'd get a private tour guide in the bargain.
You might even have time for a quick pint at one of the city's world class pubs.

Greetings from Ireland.
I wouldnt plan anything in advance in case your flight into Dublin gets delayed and your 6 hours suddenly becomes 4.5.
And security in Dublin airport is notoriously slow so allow for that on the way back in.
However its only 30 minutes by bus and 20 minutes by taxi to downtown Dublin. A taxi driver providing running commentary will cost a small fortune but you might get a good idea with one of them, Im sure they'd turn the meter off if you cut a deal with them.
If you've never been before, or don't ever plan to come back then you could get a pint in Temple bar and maybe see some of the main sights.
Othwerwise I don't think it'd be worth the cost and the effort involved, Dublin is best enjoyed at a slow and easy pace.
