Any lodgings near the train station that you would recommend? My wife and I are going to spend a day in Dublin. The next day we are going to take the train to Cork, so I thought that staying near the train station would make sense.

There is more than one train station in Dublin. Trains to Cork leave from Heuston station.
While I can't recommend a hotel near the station, central Dublin is fairly small so you could stay almost anywhere. Lots of busses and the tram go to Heuston. Even a cab won't cost much
