Lodging in Donegal

Donegal Castle and the town of Donegal aren't mentioned in Rick's guidebook, "Best of Ireland". Any suggestions for lodging in Donegal?

I haven't been yet. I'm planning to stop in May. There are a dozen ways to find something, here's a couple:

I'd probably start with Tripadvisor.com It includes ratings and you can book directly from there. Many of my European friends use this regularly for booking last minute lodging.

You can also go to Google maps and search for hotels near Donegal. It will populate a map with a bunch of places and prices on the map, so you can see exactly where it's located. If you see something you like, some you can click on and it will take you straight to a booking page. Others, you may need to search for the name on the web to book or find it on another booking sight.

I've really backed off on booking.com, hotels.com and other booking sights. I've had too many experiences showing up and being put in the worst possible room in the place. Nothing is better than calling a place directly to book. Email is free but doesn't always work because not every place has someone who is checking email and responding regularly.

You can also stop by the Tourist Information Center and ask them, they'll book you something on the spot. I rarely do this because they'll book you to their paid advertisers rather than the place you might choose.

In Donegal town we stayed at the Abbey Hotel. Great location right off the square. Clean and fine breakfast. Great restaurants and pubs within blocks. We loved the Olde Castle Inn and the Reel. We stayed at the Nessbit Arms in Adrara - great spot, great town. In Dungloe we stayed at the Waterfront - great food, great staff. In Dunfanahy we stayed at the Arnold - fine spot. There's likely great B&B's near all of those too.
