My husband's ancestors have roots in the Antrim Coast. We would like to visit the area in general (no genealogy/cemetery hunts) while keeping Belfast as home base. Any suggestions for a local guide or train or bus for the best experience? We are senior citizens but up for an adventure.
Both Paddywagon and Finn McCool do day trios from Belfast along the Antrim Coast to Giant's Causeway. Itineraries are similar and both get good reviews.
FinnMcCool also advertise an hop on hop off tour along the coast too.
Thank you very much for this information. Very helpful and much appreciated!
We used Glenara Elite Travel when we were in Belfast in May of 2022. They aren't based in Belfast, but you can have a pickup in Belfast (for a fee, which is what we did), or you can get yourself to Coleraine. http://glenaraelitetravel.com/giants-causeway/
Even though we paid extra for the pickup, the cost for a private tour was reasonable, we thought.
Our guide, Dean, was sooo wonderful. He is from Derry and knows the area well. He also had stories of his youth during the height of The Troubles. You can read more about our experience with this tour in the third and fourth posts in my Ireland trip report here: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/trip-reports/countryside-castles-and-celts-croatia-and-ireland-trip-report-part-2-ireland
Thank you very much. Wonderful to get good information in the forum!
