Length of stay/lodging recommendations in Dublin.

We will be flying out of a Dublin on January 2nd.

Should we spend 2 or 3 nights?
Also, where should we stay if we choose between the following? Hilton Kilmainham, Conrad, or DoubleTree Burlington Rd?
Or is there some place close to attractions and bus line that you would recommend? Moderate pricing!

Because you will be there on New Year's Day and some things may shut down a little early for New Year's Eve, I would suggest 3 nights if it is your first time in Dublin to give yourself time to cover the sights you want to see before the New Year's Eve festivities begin. As for your lodging, if you are referring to the Conrad that is a few blocks from St. Stephen's Green, I'd go with that so you are within walking distance to the New Year's Eve events without having to rely on trying to get a taxi or public transit (the Hilton Kilmainham & DoubleTree Burlington Road are a bit removed from the city center). I would not recommend staying anywhere in the Temple Bar vicinity if you hope to get any sleep.

Hi, I also suggest you spend 3 nights. We just got back from a trip there in April. We stayed at the moderately priced, Rick Steve's recommended, Albany House--it is located just south of St. Stephen's Green. Breakfast included, all rooms en suite, rooms are clean bright, and quiet! Everything within walking distance--especially if you are walkers! But close to train and buses if needed! Have fun!!

If you are looking for a Hilton, the Hilton at Charlemont is on the LUAS line a two stops from St.Stephen's green, a short taxi ride from anywhere, or a nice walk from the city center.

We stayed at the Conrad in 2012 and loved it. We felt that the location was good (near St. Stephens Green and Grafton Street. as well as the Hop-on-Hop-Off bus). Lots of good restaurants nearby and the hotel was very comfortable. We would recommend three nights which is really only two days.

Thanks everyone! We booked the Conrad for three nights! So many more questions, but I'll add them later. BTW-it's our first trip to Ireland...and in December. I'm excited about experiencing Christmas and New Years, but nervous about the weather and driving! :)
