We are traveling from USA to Southampton with a 9 hour layover in Dublin. It is all on the same ticket. After going through immigration are we allowed to leave the airport to explore Dublin without having to take our bags with us? Will they transfer on to Southampton automatically and we go through customs there? If not, is there a place to store our luggage while we are in Dublin? TIA

Once you clear Irish immigration no one is going to stop you leaving the airport.
You are aware that clearing Irish immigration is also your clearance for the UK. When you get off your plane in the UK, it will be like a domestic flight.
