My brother is leaving from Shannon Airport around 11;30am. We'll be driving the day before from Clifden to somewhere near the airport. What town would you recommend for his last day? I was thinking of Adare. Someone mentioned Portumna it doesn't seem to have much to offer.... any ideas?

Adare is beautiful. Consider Limerick city also, don't be put off with all the media hype about gangsters and criminals (If I believed all that Id be scared to ever to go the US!) and the bleak picture depicted in 'Angelas Ashes' :)
Its a very authentic and historic city! Check it out.
If you feel like a luxury guesthouse within 10 minutes drive from the airport, check out Carrygerry House, I filmed there last year for Irish TV and its lovely, quiet but lovely!

There is also the Bunratty Castle area just six miles from the airport. A number of nice B&Bs behind the castle and folk park, and a little shopping center across the street.

Had the same itinerary last year and we stayed in Ennis at the Temple Gate Hotel the night before flying out.
