Last 2 Nights in Dublin - Where to stay?

We are spending 2 weeks in Ireland in May 4-16, 2017 and focusing on the west cost from Galway to Kinsale, so Dublin only gets 2 nights. Our loop itinerary will return us to Dublin Sunday, May 14, dropping off car at Dublin airport... guessing about 4:00 pm. Plan to spend what is left of Sunday 14th evening and a full day in Dublin Monday, May 15th on foot (Kells, Archeo Museum, Trinity Library. Morning flight back to USA Tues, May 16th. Thought about Swords, Howth or other outlying areas. Dublin City is so expensive and seems public transportation around the area is great, so no need to stay downtown. We are not into big cities but Dublin has some must see sights.

FYI very basic itinerary: We have a LONG LIST of opportunities in each area I have not listed below, including some alternate routes to get from one base to the next, but plan to take our time, be flexible, consider the weather, get to know the people, explore a bit too.

Fly into Dublin - get car
Spend 1 night in Trim:- Bru na Boinne and Trim Castle
Spend 3 nights in Oughterard (Galway): Connamara, Galway, Aran Islands, School of Falconry
Spend 1 night Kinvarra: Cliffs of Moher, the Burren, Neo sites in area
Spend 3 nights (on sheep-cattle farm) in Castlemaine: Dingle Peninsula, Ring of Kerry, Dingle Town
Spend 2 nights in Kinsale: Charles Fort, Dromberg stone circle, Cobh, Rock of Cashel-Cashir on way back to Dublin
Spend 2 nights in Dublin (area) - return car upon arrival in Dublin
Fly home

Thanks for any suggestions!

Rick's Pocket Dublin suggests a room in quiet Dun Laoghaire or small town Howth, where rooms are cheaper & the DART train is an easy ride into the city. We are traveling just before you, in late April, leaving May 4th. We are spending our last night (after our tour ends) at Jurys Inn Christchurch, because we want to be able to walk around & enjoy some nightlife (pubs & music). Enjoy your trip!

Harcourt Hotel is not too expensive and quite nice. It is 2 blocks from the airport bus route and walking distance to Trinity College (where you can take the campus walking tour and see the Book of Kells) as well as St. James' Park and Grafton Street.

Only caveat, when we stayed there on a weekend the overnight noise from nearby nightclubs was deafeaning from 1 AM to 5 AM. Apparently this is an ongoing problem because it's the only hotel I've ever stayed in that provides ear plugs on the nightstand.

Stay south of the river and somewhere close to Trinity College so that you can walk to most of the sights you want to see. Don't bother with Howth or Dún Laoghaire --these are suburban dead zones at night. Take the airport bus from Dublin Airport into town; there are convenient stops near Trinity and St. Stephen's Green.

We stayed in Howth last September both arriving and departing from Dublin.
Per Rick, stayed at both at King Sitric's and Ann's Guesthouse and enjoyed both very much. Had harbor views in both places.
It's a beautiful town and very quiet right on the ocean. Excellent restaurants nearby and great walking nearby whether along the harbor or in the peninsula hills.
At the time, Dublin was being torn up for the installation on new Muni Railways. Staying in Howth mitigated a somewhat noisy/crowed Dublin.
DART was a 10 minute walk away and very easy to use to get in town and back.
