Kinsale vs. Cobh

Hi everyone. My girlfriend and I land in Dublin from Oslo 9am on a Sunday in late May for 6 nights in Ireland. We are renting a car and driving south on Day 1 to check out Cobh and/or Kinsale before continuing west along the coast and working into counties Kerry and Clare. We want to book our first and last night in advance then play the rest by ear - hopefully that will work.

I'm looking for thoughts on whether to spend the first night in Cobh or Kinsale. We prefer to stay in smaller towns with character and friendly pubs but don't need anything fancy. I think we would have time for a quick visit/lunch in Cobh then travel to Kinsale for the night. But is that drive too burdensome/hectic for our first day driving on the left side of the road? Any thoughts appreciated :-) Thanks!

Guess first question would be; have you previously driven on the opposite side of the road?

Secondly, do you plan to see the Rock of Cashel?

Kinsale is smaller but a longer drive from Dublin.

Personally I would visit Cobh on the way but stay in Kinsale. Cobh is very interesting with the Heritage Center and the Titanic Experience and it's also not a large city, but Kinsale is much more a typical small town with a picturesque harbor area and a small center. We stayed i Kinsale for 2 nights and I loved it there. It's only about an hour more from Cobh to Kinsale.

Thanks!

I have never driven on the left side but I've got a good co-pilot/navigator. We are coming off a week in Norway so jet lag shouldn't be a factor. Not sure about cashel... we'll do it if we can. Is it reasonable to sneak a peak in an hour or two?

I would definitely make a quick stop at the Rock of Cashel on your way! It's beautiful to see and you don't need to spend a great deal of time there. I agree with visiting Cobh and then staying in Kinsale. Kinsale is a nice Irish town with pubs with entertainment in the evening! As for driving, the gentleman at the car rental told us after a half hour, you will have no trouble driving on the other side of the road. My husband did great ... after that first half hour!

Thank you both; I will book in Kinsale! Any recommendations on a BnB... budget about 70 euros total for the two of us.
