We are scheduled to take a all day tour of the Kilkarney park starting at 10 am. So if we leave Kinsale at 7:30 am will we be able to make it to the tour. We will be staying in B&B near abbey fort road, Kinsale. The google drive times are not reliable it seems.
Google maps gives you a decent ballpark estimate, but yes, I’d add extra time. So if Google says 1.5 hours to Killarney NP, allow at least 2 hours. Plus you’ll need time to find parking, find your tour group, use the bathroom, get a snack, etc. If I had to do this, I’d leave the B&B in Kinsale at 7am (which actually means 7:15 after I find my shoes).
Unfortunately, it won’t allow for a scenic route or serendipitous stops along the way.
Thanks for your help. We decided to just see the Ross castle, Muckross Abbey and the the Torc waterfalls instead on our own. So we are not stressed driving.
That sounds like a nice alternative. There will be plenty to do at your own pace, so you might not even miss the guide.
Muckross Abbey and Torc waterfall are relatively near each other. In between is Muckross House itself. You don’t need to tour the house, but its gardens in back are free and very beautiful. There is a nice cafeteria (and gift shop!) near the gardens.
You can walk along the lake, or take a motorboat across to Dinis Cottage for lunch or a snack, and then boat or hike back. (If you hike, walk along the north side of the lake.)
Ross Castle is a couple of miles up the road, on the outskirts of Killarney town itself. It’s definitely worth a visit, and I really liked the guided tour.
That will fill your day! Have a wonderful time.
