How much time do i need to get from Kilmainham to Heuston Station?

I was able to secure tickets for Kilmainham Goal for 10:45 ( earliest I was able to get). entry on 9/2/2025 we currently have train tickets departure at 1:30 to Galway. Will this allow for enough time to take the tour, get our luggage from storage near Heuston, and make the 1:30 departure or should we make a later train reservation?

Thanks for any feedback

Hi, barbieharrison,

You might want to change the title of your thread to something more relevant, like "How much time do I need to get from Kilmainham to Heuston station?" or something similar. Right now there is no question in there and many folks might pass it by because of that.

To change it, just click the "Edit" link at the bottom of the post, then delete the old title and write a new one. :-)

If you don’t plan to spend a lot of time visiting the self guided exhibits after your tour, and you plan to take a taxi to the station you should be fine for time.

If you’d like to see the artifacts and read about more of the history, and/or you’re planning to walk to Heuston, and/or you would prefer a sit down lunch to grabbing sandwiches to eat on the train I’d make a later train reservation.

I guess it depends on how much time you’re spending in Galway and how much you want to see and do on your arrival day. If you don’t have a lot planned, you might want to take a later train so you can spend time in the museum and enjoy lunch before you travel.

Heuston train station is less than one mile from Kilmainham Gaol— about a 5 to 10 minute taxi ride.
So, you should be fine with the clock.
