Kilmainham Gaol - too late to go?

Hi everyone,

I'm going to be in Dublin on Friday and Saturday of this week. I'm trying to travel more loosely than previously, and somehow didn't notice that it's advised to pre-book for this site. I have not done so, and all the pre-booking slots are gone. I saw that walk up tickets may be available on the day of, and early arrival is recommended. Does anyone have a sense of how possible it may be to get walk up tickets if we arrive first thing Saturday morning? (Friday is also possible, but we'll have just gotten off the plane at 5am so it may be better to stick to walking around outside that morning.)

Thanks!

Just go to the front door and queue. You'll get in.

Wrap up well - it will be bloody freezing. The prison is made of limestone which holds the moisture and consequently it is often colder in the the prison than outside. This is by design, it was thought that bracing cold air would purify the prisoners; this is also why it was built on top of a hill without any glass in the windows.

We went in May 2015 on a weekday without any pre-booked tickets and only waited about 15 minutes or so to join a tour.

Phew! Thank you. And also for the tip about the cold. I'll bring my puffer coat and my thick blanket scarf.

There is a nice Hilton just up the street where you can relax with a coffee or adult beverage before or after.
