Plannning our trip to Ireland this June and had a question about Kilmainham Gaol tickets. I know we shoudl get them in advance. We plan on visiting Kilmainham Gaol as part of our hop on hop off bus tour of Dublin. If we start the tour near Christ Church when should we anticipate being at Kilmainham Gaol? Or does it make sense just to get oursleves there ealry in the day and do it first thing, so we don't have to worry about missing/making the window for our tickets? Any advice would be appreciated.

We grabbed a taxi to get there 15 minutes before our ticket time. We then hopped on the hop on and off bus as we were exiting the Gaol... there is a stop right by there

I think the Hop On Hop Off bus is a little too risky for a timed entry in Kilmainham. Either a taxi or Dublin Bus (#40) works well. I took the bus to and from last summer when I was in Dublin.
