Kilmainham Gaiol

We’d like to hear anybody’s experience on touring Kilmainham Gaol in Dublin. I see tickets sell out very quickly. Is it worth a tour?

Have been there on three separate trips and definitely feel it is one of the very best experiences in Dublin.

Yes—It’s a key site in Irish history which—to understand Ireland,— you really have to visit. Kilmainham Gaol online ticket sales open up for sale at midnight Dublin time ( 4pm PST) 30 days in advance of the admission date. Fewer than 980 visitors are admitted daily on the one-hour tours which is why it quite often sells out within days or even hours.

It is only going to be worth it if you have an interest in seeing it. I’m heading to Ireland in May and the jail is not on my list of things I plan to see and do.

For Dublin, I’m most excited about the day trips I plan to take—Howth, Dalkey, Bray, and Dun Laoghaire.

Our time is precious when traveling. It’s important to do things that you want to do, not what others think you should do.

This video might help you decide if it’s something you’d like to spend your time on:

As always a lot depends on your interests and especially the 1916 Easter Rising and its subsequent effect on modern Irish History...

Like mentioned above, only if you have an interest.
We visited cause a friend’s grandfather was in that goal at the time of the uprising.

Thank You as always experts!! Your information confirmed that it would be a great experience for us. I like to know the history of places I visit and the Kilmainham Gaol is a pivotal part of Dublin/Ireland's history.

Tomb you might be interested in watching movie In the. Name of the Father which tells true story of men who were imprisoned in the gaol. Parts of the movie were actually filmed there. Also be sure to go to the GPO where you can still see marks where bullets hit the building during the Easter uprising. Enjoy your visit. .

If you have time you might also consider 14 Henrietta St. it’s a georgian era townhouse that’s been “renovated” to show how it was used over 100 years. It essentially tells the story of Dublin.https://14henriettastreet.ie/
