We're coming to Ireland in June 2017. I'm debating whether to stay one night in Kinsale and one in Killarney or 2 in Killarney. Any suggestions?
In Ireland, where you stay depends a lot upon what you will be doing in the places in between, and when. As much as I am not a fan of one night stays, I recommend a night in Kinsale. Why do you want to stay in Killarney, think it's well known as excessively pandering to tourists. In that general area, could you stay in Kenmare instead? Don't miss Muckross House in that area! Have visited twice, in 2002 and 2016, and recommend it highly.
We don't have to stay in Killarney but there seems to be a lot of things to do in that area. Can you tell me what you like about Kenmare? Thanks, I'm definitely open to suggestions!
Kenmare is just a small town that is situated well for the Ring of Kerry. Check it out on Google images. It's mostly just one street, easy to get into and out of. We stayed at the Willow Lodge B&B in 2002 and again in 2016. I am sure you would do fine in Killarney too, but tends to be a major stop for big bus tours due to its location.
My vote would be Kinsale and Kenmore and just spend an afternoon in Killarney. If I had to make a choice I would also skip the Ring of Kerry and spend the time on the Dingle Peninsula instead...when seeing a tour bus we tend to head the other way...just a personal preference.
I wrestled with the same decision and opted for Kenmare. Its just down the road and so much quainter and quieter.
I would HIGHLY recommend the Coachman's guest house. The brother/sister owners are so incredibly friendly and accommodating. The food is simple but delicious and the rooms are some of the nicest we stayed in while in Ireland. And staying over a pub is always a bonus in my opinion!
Thanks so much for all the info. It's been very helpful!
