The various guidebooks have convinced me not to visit Killarney in high tourist season. Does anyone have advice about that city in Sept.? From a logistics standpoint, it fits our schedule much better than Kenmare.
On both of our September trips we found the traffic in Killarney to be a bit of a challenge--lots of cars and tour buses. But it was bad only by western Ireland standards--not much worse than driving in downtown Portland on a Friday afternoon. I'm guessing that it is much better than it would be during the summer months. We didn't spend the night on either occasion, but we did spend several hours visiting Muckross House and exploring a little of the National Park and, although there were lots of tour buses in the parking lot at Muckross House, the crowds seemed quite reasonable. Frankly, we found September to be a wonderful time to visit Ireland!
We were there in July and really did not find it that bad at all. I am sure that September would be fine.
