Killarney accommodations

Need some help. I have read conflicting views on this and other sites regarding staying for 3 days in Killarney and take day trips. Some say it is the worst, least charming town to stay. Would we be better splitting time in Kinsale, Cork and/or Dingle? We want charm, pretty and cozy. Thanks in Advance, Jan

I live just outside Killarney. Its a beautiful town and well worth a few days. Dingle and Kinsale are smaller but also very nice. Killarney has far more to see and experience. Ross Castle on the lake. Muckross house and gardens . Killarney National Park with lots of trails and paths for walks, cycling, pony rides, boat trips (small boat and large) . Night time lots of pubs with irish music and lot of places to eat,

See views from 5 Star hotel Europe (perfect stop for a coffee or gourmet lunch / dinner)

Day trips by bus to Dingle , Ring of Kerry or drive your own car and explore . see nearby Kate Kearney cottage and Gap of Dunloe.
INEC at gleaneagle hotel have nightly concerts

Hop on / off bus
Yes the town centre gets busy in July / August but is not too uncomfortable, just means pre booking for dinner. Some pubs are busy at weekends but other pubs are not full and you get to meet the local people. There are about 30 in the town centre

A pleasant alternative to staying in Killarney is Kenmare - a much more mellow experience than the hustle and bustle of Killarney. Can still access all of the attractions in Killarney, drive the ROK, and maybe drive out the Beara peninsula just to the south - one of Ireland's most underrated attractions in our opinion.
While driving the ROK might suggest heading over to Portmagee on Valencia Island to the Skellig Center. They run daily boats out to the islands (weather permitting) where you can walk up to the old monastic settlement, explore the beehive huts ... and maybe search for Luke Skywalker.
