thoughts on Kilkenny vs alternative for night stay prior to back to Dublin
Kilkenny is a nice place for a one night stay and a reasonable drive from Dublin.
It might help if you mentioned where you're driving from and what you'd like to do.
All the best,

arriving from Kenmare-open to sights
Sights around Kilkenny include Cahir Castle, Rock of Cashel and Hore Abbey (just down the hill from the Rock) .
I think Kilkenny is a decent stop before Dublin. It's within a manageable drive. Kenmare is a pretty long drive to Dublin (especially if you add stops).
You may also want to add a stop at Glendalough on the way from Kilkenny. If you went straight there then straight to Dublin, it wouldn't be too much. A full scenic drive through the area might be too much.
great-thanks
We stayed 2 days in Kilkenny 2 years ago and really enjoyed it. We stayed at the Pembroke and were very happy there.
Rock of Cashel was great (do the on site tour which runs about every 45 min as it was very informative). We also enjoyed seeing Hore Abbey. For a bit of a twist we took a 1/2 day course in Ireland's sport Hurling, while in Kilkenny. Just something unique and fun.
We loved Kilkenny! Toured the castle, Smithwick's Brewery and walked around the quaint town. Had dinner at Matt the Miller's which had live music. Wished we had another night there! Don't miss Rock of Cashel on the way ... Beautiful!
Thanks to all-a great help
