kilkenny to dublin

Staying 2 nights in Kilkenny then headed for an overnight in Dublin. We will be driving and any suggestions on sights in both areas will be appreciated. Wish for more time in Dublin but just not possible. What is the best way to approach Dublin in such a short time. We fly out of Dublin around 1100am. Someone suggested returning car to airport the night before and use the shuttle back and forth.

Hi,

Kilkenny and Dublin are both great, and relatively close. Kilkenny Castle is really good, as is St. Canice's cathedral and tower. The Smithwick's bewery was great - it is due to reopen after refurb this summer - just not sure when!

Good call on leaving the car directly back to the airport - often it's just not worth the hassle of driving in the city, and finding parking, which can be costly in Dublin. I would find about from your hotel what the parking situation is in Dublin, though it might just be best to leave it back the night before.

If you only have a little time in Dublin, there are a number of great value attractions that can be reached very close to College Green - National Gallery, National Library, Trinity College and Merrion Square to name but a few. Kilmainham Gaol is always great but takes a little while to get to (just a wee bit out of city centre). If you feel you have enough time, you could take the Green Hop-On Hop-Off bus and use that to bring you around the attractions?

If you do leave the car back the night before, and you are going to and from the city centre - I would take the Airlink Express bus to do so.
