We are traveling to Ireland in late June, flying in and out of Dublin with our two young adult children. I've booked 3 nights each in Kilkenny and Kenmare and are looking for a place to spend our last two nights. Ideally it would be somewhat on the route back to Dublin, but any recommendations are welcome! We had originally thought the Doolin area, but now I am worried that Kenmare-Doolin would be a long day followed by a single day in that area and then a long drive to Dublin to depart. I'd love to hear thoughts on that as well as alternates. Thank you!
Will you have a night in Dublin before you fly out? If not then maybe stay the two nights in Dublin. You could go to Trim with a visit to Newgrange, Trim Castle, and Monasterboice. Trim is an easy drive to the airport but four hours from Kenmare on Google maps (so figure five hours). I always recommend Ennis in County Clare. (I am assuming flight is already booked, otherwise open jaw into or out of Shannon makes sense).
Assuming that you have allowed some time for Dublin at the beginning of your trip, then I would say Galway.
