Kerry in April or October

Hello! We are a family of 4 (two adults and two under 10) planning a trip to Ireland. We have somehow visited Ireland three times and not done Kerry or Dingle (I know!!). I was thinking we would stay in Killarney for 3 nights and focus on the area within 25-35 minutes of there and then stay somewhere close to Valentia for another 2 nights before heading to Dingle. I would love ideas. Does anyone know a great hiking guide for Killarney National Park? We've had great luck with hiking guides in the past and would love recommendations. I would love any advice for "must do's" in the park and the area around Killarney. I would also love advice for where to stay near the Valentia area and what to do around there. It seems (unfortunately) like we won't be able to do Skellig Michael regardless of whether we go in April or October, because it seems only to be open May to September :( Unfortunately, that's when I can get time off. Too bad! We would have loved to hike up to the monastery. Thank you in advance for any advice! It is much appreciated. I've found the forums really helpful every time I've planned a trip.
