Kenmare lodging

Hello,

We are planning a trip to Ireland in September of this year. We will be on bus/foot so we are looking for a places to stay that are close to town centers. We are, specifically, looking for a moderate priced hotel, inn or b&b in Kenmare. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks. Katie

If you look at the map on Booking.com for your dates, I think any of the hotels in the center triangle of connecting streets would fit your bill. However having said that, a couple of these hotels are above pubs with a lively evening music scene. We stayed in one such pub and there wasn’t a lot of soundproofing if you are on the floor above the restaurant. If I were going again I’d look for something else, perhaps like Rookery Lane bookable on Booking.com.

We’re planning our Ireland trip for this year, and while we won’t be staying in Kenmare ourselves, Rick Steves suggests Hawthorn House “in a quiet residential location just a block from all the pub and restaurants action,” www.hawthornhousekenmare.com. How does €100 per night sound? Other places seem to be farther from the center, and/or more expensive.

Haven't stayed there yet but I've booked 3 days at Rockcrest House, which is about 10 minutes walk west of the "triangle ". It's gotten great reviews that mention it being quiet but walkable to town center. The owner has been very prompt and courteous in our communications thus far. €109 per night for our stay in May. In my trip research, it seems the higher the rating, the higher the price. Rockcrest House, at least anecdotally, appears to be an exception.

Thanks all. Many of the places suggested are already full for our dates :(. I made reservations at Brook Lane Hotel just to make sure we had something but still looking. Anyone know anything about Brook Lane?

Thanks again.

We stayed at the Brook Lane Hotel in May 2019 and found it very comfortable and would stay there again. There was a nice walking path into the city center. We hired a private driver for the Ring of Kerry excursion and he picked us up from the parking lot. Very convenient!

JimK,

Now that you have stayed there, would you recommend the Rockcrest House?
And a couple of questions:
- Do they have onsite parking?
- Is the walk to city center easy and how long did it actually take you to walk there?

Gregoryabell,
I would recommend Rockcrest with the caveat that, yes they do have on-site parking but the driveway is a little bit of a steep incline, so be mindful when turning in. Also, a bit of a steep walk up the driveway or stone steps to front door. Photos on Google maps can probably tell you if it's something you're comfortable with or not. I had no problem with the driveway but chose to park at the car park just down the lane, because my sister had some back problems. Walking from the b&b takes about 5-10 minutes to get to town. From the car park it's only steps away. Rockcrest is on a beautiful quiet one lane road so be mindful when walking. Rooms and service there are great! Hope this helps!

We stayed in the Rockcrest House last May and loved it! Quiet location and a very enjoyable short, easy walk to town. Highly recommend the Rockcrest House!
