Kenmare/Dingle Dilemma

I will be driving from Kinsale along the coastal route to reach Kenmare. Plan to stay in Kenmare that night and the next night, and then head to Dingle Peninsula for two nights. BUT I am concerned that one full day in Kenmare will not permit enough time to do justice to that area. Should I try to do three nights in Kenmare (two full days of sightseeing), and only one night in Dingle? All opinions welcome!!!

I would leave it the way you originally planned it. There is more to do in the Dingle area than in Kenmare, and a day there should be fine. You won't want to short Dingle.

Thanks, Nancy. I think this plan will be alright as we're not trying to do the entire ROK, but only the National Park and possibly Muckross.

Nancy is right, you won't regret it. We stayed at the lighthouse B&B but prefer Celli breach, I know my spelling is wrong but I loved having a balcony where I could make my own cup of tea in my room and sit out there in am or in evening and look over the harbor. We particularly loved the Stonehouse restaurant on the Slea head drive, great food and so unique, even roof is made of stones, donkeys in front and you can walk up the hill to go into some beehive huts, think it cost a euro or two, can't remember. Our favorite pub was mentioned in RS book. Can't remember it but have been to several and this was the best, only four blocks from car park, maybe someone on their staff can help. Sorry for being so vague, will try to look it up for you if you want.

I think you should stick with 2 nights in Kenmare and 2 nights in Dingle. On your way to Kenmare from Kinsale you could visit Muckross House if you have time. Then the next morning you could devote the entire day to Kenmare and the Ring of Kerry. Sleep in Kenmare and then press on to Dingle giving you one full day to explore Dingle town and the peninsula. I also personally don't like a lot of one night stops and prefer to move every 2 nights instead.

Stay in Dingle at least two nights. www.cillbhreachouse.com. Definitely make reservations there. John and Angela are wonderful hosts. Absolutely spend more time in Dingle. Visit the Gap of Dunloe. Stunning.

Well, it's decided. Thanks to everyone! 2 nights Kenmare, 2 nights Dingle. I have some questions about the Gap of Dunloe, but will start another thread for that.
