Itinerary in Northern Ireland. Need suggestions.

Hi! Traveling to Ireland in early August. This is our plan so far. Total nights in Ireland-13. Need to be back in Dublin on night 13 to fly out the next day.
Dublin- Arrive and spend 3 nights.
Belfast by train- 1 night. Planing to pick up car at Belfast International Airport - afraid to drive in the city.
Drive the A2 coast road from Belfast to Causway coast. Not sure where to stay there. Would like to be close to the water and able
to walk to pubs/restaurants. Plan to stay 3 nights.
Complete drive along Atrim coast, then drive southwest to Donegal. Thought we could stay in Donegal town and take some bus tours to coast and historic sights. Stay 2-3 nights.
Then thought we would stay in Sligo and see local historic sights, then drop off car in Sligo and take train back to Dublin for departure.
Here are my questions: 1) How many nights should we stay in Donegal and Sligo? We don't want to keep moving every day, but we
don't want to book in somewhere and not have enough to do.
2) Has anyone taken the train from Sligo to Dublin? What is it like and how long a trip is it?
3) Any suggestion of where to stay in Donegal and/or Sligo?
4) Any other suggestions on this itinerary?
Thanks for any help anyone can give!

Before we drove the Antrim coast we stayed at the Old Inn in Crawfordsburn. Along the coast we stopped at the giant's causway, Carrick-a-rede bridge, and then took a tour of Bushmill's distillery. After the drive we stayed in Portrush. You'll be driving reverse of what we did.
