itinerary for short time in Ireland

My friend and I are taking vacation to Ireland and Scotland for 2 weeks in May. We will fly into Dublin, rent a car, then fly from Dublin to Edinburgh on either the 9th or 10th.-I know, way to short a time in Ireland, but the focus of our trip is Scotland. I've been to the west coast of Ireland 8 years ago, my friend has not. I was thinking to head south out of Dublin from the airport, then west to Dingle Peninsula, north to Cliffs of Mohr, then east again to Dublin. We want to get to the high spots, but realize this is short. We want to stay in B and B's, and we like history, scenery, villages, countryside. We appreciate any help you can give us!

Hi Becky

Greetings from beautiful Dingle.

You'll have a great trip and May is a great month to travel around my beloved Island. The South-west and west definitely are a highlight. I could write suggestions here forever, but I think you're onto a winner if you choose to stay in Dingle and Galway. Killarney and Kinsale are also excellent in my opinion... if you have any specific questions just drop me a line

Might I suggest the following itinerary. Arrive Dublin, rent the car. Drive to Glendalough. This spot can be magical for a first time visitor. From there to the Rock of Cashel. From there drive to Kinsale. Overnight. Bit of a jaunt but doable and if not because your plane was late on arrival, then spend the night in Cashel. Out the door early in route to Killarney, visit the Muckross house and Killarney national park, from there to the Gap of Dunloe, walk it, take a trap ride, but see it! Then short drive to Dingle. Overnight. Pint at Foxy John's. Next morning before the tour buses cram the road drive Slea Head. Then on up to Cliffs of Mohr and an overnight in Doolin. . Maybe a ferry to Aran Islands the next morning before heading to Galway, last overnight and back to Dublin and your flight to Scotland.
You choose how many nights in each spot and what not to see if you feel pressed for time. As far as Bnb's type what town you wish to find recommendations for into this forums search engine and you'll find options. Beautiful country. Have fun!
