I know some areas north of Dublin are pretty nasty places to venture into, particularly north of the Connolly Train Station, How about Santry? Is it pretty safe to stay there? Thanks!
Greetings from Ireland. Writing this from Dublin, here for the 1916 celebrations.
Santry is about as safe a neighbourhood as you can possibly imagine, its also very far from the city centre. My Uncle and cousins live there, so I know it well.
Just so you know, there are some rough spots in the southside of Dublin also. This whole Northside v Southside is a bit of a myth that anyone living in Dublin knows isn't reflective of the reality.
Point being, don't visit Dublin with the misconception that the only neighbourhoods that you have to have your wits about you are in the Northside, that could be a costly mistake.
Overall though, the tougher neighbourhoods of Dublin aren't too bad, especially by the standards of some of the American cities Ive been to and have friends patrolling as cops. I wouldnt describe any of them as being 'pretty nasty', only mildly so. ;)

Dingle, Derry and tonight - Dublin.
Thank you for your prompt reply! Santry works for us as we've seen the major sights in Dublin a couple years ago.
We are on the May 13-26 RS Ireland tour. Any chance you'll be our guide? Would love having a native Irishman! I've just finished reading How the Irish Saved Civilization so it's a country that's earned my respect.
Im definitely on tour in May for Rick so maybe our paths will cross!
Glad you enjoyed 'how the Irish saved civilisation'... a very modest title ;)
