Is it too much to see Dublin, then out to County Mayo (up to Belmullet), then to Belfast in 9 days?

We are planning a spring break trip to Ireland next April (my husband and 2 boys) and I was hoping to go to Dublin, then drive to Clifden or Galway, then possibly stop in Westport before going to Belmullet (one place in Ireland where I was definitely able to track my ancestors). On the way back to Dublin, we wanted to stop in Belfast ( I may have had some ancestors that were from Tyrone or Fermanagh). We do plan to rent a car. I certainly don't want to feel rushed or stressed from too much driving. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Have you booked your flight yet? You could fly into Shannon, that would save time. In 9 days going from Dublin to Galway, Mayo & then the North might be tough, depending on what you want to do. Are you doing any research while you are there? Or just going to check it out? My ancestors are also from the Belmullet area, Gaughans & Munnelly. Beautiful area. We stayed at Drom Caoin B&B, Marin the owner was so nice. Loved the place.

Thanks for the input! I had thought about flying in to Shannon, but the convenience of the nonstop flight we could get from San Francisco to Dublin on Aer Lingus round trip will likely win out. We will research our options, though. I have already been in contact with the North Mayo Genealogical society, and unfortunately, there are no records available for the time frame I need to research my ancestors' history, so we will plan to just enjoy the area! My ancestors had the last names of Monaghan and McMenamin. Thank you for the advice on the B&B; we were hoping to use B&B's as opposed to hotels on the trip. We will likely spend our first and last nights in Dublin - any recommendations for accomodations there?

There is a village very near the airport, Malahide. We stayed at a friend's house the last time we were there the night before we left, very convenient. We weren't sightseeing, if you are, it may be more convenient to stay in Dublin. If you do, wait to rent the car until you leave the city. The train does run from Malahide to Dublin.

Some of our friend's take a small plane over to the west if they can't get a direct flight. Don't know about the cost.

If you are going during Easter, be aware Ireland may close down more than we are used here.
