Is 1.5 hours enough time for a layover?

Hi everyone!

So I have a flight from Dublin to New York (Norweigan airline), but I am beginning my journey in Portugal. I found a flight from Lisbon to Dublin (Ryanair) that leaves me 1.5 hours for a layover between flights. Since they're different airlines I assume I have to collect my bag and recheck it? Will this leave me enough time?

Thanks for helping in advance!

Not nearly enough time in my view. You will have collect and re-check your luggage,,then go through security and maybe immigration per-clearance.

The main problem is that you are flying two different airlines and are not protected if your first flight (the Ryanair done) arrives in Dublin too late to make the Norwegian flight.

Many people (me included) would suggest a minimum of four hours between flights that are on separate tickets, and even then there is a slight risk. If your RyanAir flight is cancelled or seriously delayed and you miss the Norwegian flight, you have lost that ticket and will have to our hase a new one. Expensive.

Given a host of factors previously mentioned, it is too short. Normally you are required to check-in for international flights around three hours in advance. Second, some European airlines close checkin at 45 mins prior to departure so you may only have 45 minutes. You have no room for error or delay.

Not only that, but Dublin is one of the airports that requires all US-bound travelers to go through passport & customs control on the ground there (in Dublin), not when you reach the USA. This itself can take an hour, easily, if there are very many people in line ahead of you.

I thought that was the case but was not certain---whichnis whybInsaid "maybe immigration per-clearance."

I hope she got a great deal on that Norwegian Air flight?

Thank you all for your help!

I'm a Canadian with Nexus so I don't think I have to worry about American immigration clearance (hopefully!), but it sounds like 1.5 hours definitely wouldn't be enough time anyways. I'm thinking I'll fly to Dublin the night before instead to be safe.

Thanks everyone :)

Also yes, I got such a good deal on my Norweigan flight! It was around $200 CAD which seemed amazing to me
