Irish Rail - Do I need to buy tickets in advance?

We are hoping to take Irish Rail from Dublin to Tralee in April (it'll be Easter Sunday).

There are several departure times that would work for us. Do we need to buy our tickets for one of them now to make sure our seats are locked in, or can we wait until we're in Ireland to buy the departure time that is most convenient for us? Does the train fill up/sell out?

Nope. Just show up, though it might be wise to check with Irish Rail because of that Sunday holiday. I've not taken that particular route, but in nine trips to Ireland - all during the summer and early fall - we've never bought tickets in advance.

A simple reminder that nearly 80% of the population of Ireland are Catholic. It's Easter Sunday which is about a traditional family feast. I'll say no more.

Easter Sunday is usually a quiet time to travel, the kids are off school and families are home for the day or away on holiday.

Just double check train schedule as some services may be reduced.
