Irish Musical Pub Crawl Dinner Show

We had a reservation for the musical pub crawl in Dublin that was just cancelled but were given the option of their dinner show instead. Is it worth it or should we just design our own pub crawl? I don’t really care about the dinner but was looking forward to the commentary from the guides.

I went to 2 dinner shows in Dublin (2014). Both were super-touristy and the food was mediocre. I looked at Musical Pub Crawl Dinner Show website and neither of my shows was at either of those pubs. I did my own pub crawl through Temple Bar one afternoon and had a great time. For a tour, I highly recommend the Literary Pub Crawl. It was very professionally done, with two tour leaders, who were professional actors, alternated being narrator (amusing and interesting) and cat-herder (kept us dry during the bit of rain we had). The 3 pub stops were worth seeing, with just enough time for a half-pint and/or a quick visit to the loo. No food so best not to go on an empty stomach.

For a good folklore experience, go to the Leprechaun Museum. It's by guided tour and a lot of fun and educational as well. Dublinia is worth at least a couple hours with fun hands-on learning about the real Vikings and daily life back in the day (adults enjoy it at least as much as the kids do) and lots of great history as well.

The musical pub crawl must be new. I did the literary pub crawl and enjoyed it. However, there was no dinner as part of the literary pub crawl.

Another idea along the same lines is to go to a play at either the Abbey or Gate theaters in Dublin. I have seen performances at both of them. The Abbey is the "literary theater" and the Gate is the "actors' theater". I saw A Christmas Carol at the Gate Theater in 2002 just before Christmas. I consider it to be the best performance among the hundreds of plays I have seen over the course of my life.

Do your own - you don't need a commentary from a guide - just listen to people talking round you!!
