Irish food salty

Did anyone else notice that the restaurant dinner meals in Ireland are overly salty?

Doubt they’re any more salty than those one gets at all those chain restaurants in the states. To answer the question directly, no.

Perhaps the chef forgot and added salt twice?

I once had a salty pasta in Italy. When the server came around to ask me if I liked the meal, I explained that it was too salty.
His response was; “it’s the cheese”
But I had tasted that same dish elsewhere and it was not salty.

A touristy dinner-and-a-show in Dublin a few years ago was pretty salty. But everywhere else, fish chowders, lamb, seafood … not at all. And that goes for the great Indian restaurant in Trim, too.

We always find that a pint of Guinness usually takes care of any saltiness of the food, and that 2 pints makes us forget what we ordered in the first place.

We are on the final leg of our retirement "Grand Tour" across Europe, and are flying out from Dublin on Tuesday.

The quality of food in Ireland is actually one of the surprises of our trip. My parents had visisted here to play golf in the 70's, and said the food was terrible. We weren't expecting too much. It's of the highest overall standard we've had over our trip.

We had some terrible meals in Italy, France, and Spain, despite recommendations.

The dining scene in Ireland can be basic, but we have found the food offering overall to be excellent. The Irish breakfast is not the type of thing you'd order each morning, but is a proper meal that will fill you up for the day.

If on the West Coast you should order seafood: 12 native oysters for 30 dollars. Seafood platters for 40 dollars that could comfortably serve 2. A pint of local beer costs 8 dollars for a 20 oz pour.

Our experience in August was the same as AMann’s.

I’ve been to Europe 10 times so far and my experience has been like davidfarrel22. I’ve often thought I’d love to return to Kinsale for the sticky toffee pudding I had there…

We just returned from Ireland a week ago and didn't find the food salty, either. It was also, as someone above mentioned, much, much better than we were expecting!

Roast lamb, Irish stew, seafood chowder, pasta dishes, all outstanding.
