STAY OUT OF IRELAND!!!
The TSA screening is ridiculous. My wife fainted while standing in line. The unit is understaffed, poor ventilation, etc..

Just out of curiosity, how long were you in line with the TSA?

There is no TSA in Ireland, there is US customs and you clear there instead of the US. I have done it four times since the US customs took over and found it very efficient. I love that once I have landed in the US I am over customs and immigration. TSA is Transportation security administration and operate at US airports. Dublin has their own security and they seemed very nice and went through without a hitch. Take your liquids and electronics out of your bag, be prepared as you should be for the screening line.

I felt like the endless questions by the ticket agents at CDG more tedious. They are now trained to ask open ended questions to those in line.

When we did pre-clearance in Dublin, the line was seriously long. But it moved well, and the staff members were incredibly friendly. I found it to be a huge improvement to waiting in line to clear customs when you land Stateside.

I always tell people three hours because I buy next to nothing till I hit duty free. I need that hour! I loved that last trip there was more duty free and tasting right next to our gate. Three hours gives you plenty of time to get through customs and security.

You don't say whether this was in Dublin or Shannon. When was this - time of year, day of the week, time of day? Had your wife gone a long time without eating or drinking?

Silly to demand that people stay out of Ireland because of flight issues - like they never happen anywhere else.

Rusty, it might be good for yr wife to be seen by her physician. Yrs ago, my father fainting while standing in line for a venue w the bus tour, was the first clue that he had a serious underlying medical condition

I'm very sorry to hear that you had such a bad experience. I'm sure it was very upsetting for both you and your wife.

Unfortunately such things can happen anywhere, as others have pointed out. The suggestion that your wife may benefit from a medical checkup is also a good one.

I will say that in Shannon when we went through USA pre-clearance, my husband was struggling to remove his shoes as he has some mobility limitations. Unlike in the US, the agents showed a measure of compassion and asked me if I wanted to help him. I was so surprised that I just froze, having been yelled at many times by TSA agents in American airports when I tried to help him.

The security check in Ireland is NOT TSA. It is run by the Irish and TSA has nothing to do with how it is run. I have always found it quick and efficient enough in Dublin but have no experience with other Irish airports.

They do have the US Immigration and Customs Pre Clearance. This is run by the US government and sometimes can be slow and understaffed just like it is at US airports. But, it cuts 2 to 3 hours off the time I always spend going through the same check in the US when I fly back from places not having Pre Clearance.

Not sure what part caused your issues. But a slow moving security line is not a reason to avoid visiting a country!

Do you have the option to not go through the Dublin U.S. pre-screening to save time, if our home U.S. airport is efficient?

Everyone goes through the Ireland Pre Screening if they are boarding a US bound plane.

There is simply no way to keep the screened and non screened separated once on the plane.

No. You have to go through US immigration and customs to get to the US-bound gates.
