Hello
We will be staying in Cork one night and driving to Galway for 2 nights. Is the Ring of Kerry doable in the morning or are we better off doing the Burren? Also the Cliffs of Moher. Not sure of drive time in a car.
Google maps help give an estimate of how long it will take to drive between different places, but it is recommended you add 25% to the times PLUS time for any stops. Distances may not look that long on a map but will take a lot longer to drive than you might expect.
The direct route between Cork and Galway is about 125 miles and is going to take 3+ hours to drive plus time for stops.
Trying to include the Ring of Kerry is more than doubling the distance and is going to take 8 hours plus stops. (That also misses out the drive between Kenmare and Killarney, which is very scenic. Just doing the Ring itself is going to take 3.5 hours and possibly more if there is a lot of traffic.) This isn't something you can do in the morning.
Cork to Cliffs of Moher to Galway is around 150 miles and will take nearly six hours plus stops. It is a lot slower route to drive. That is doable. If time allows rather than taking the N67 from Lisdoonvarna, take the R477 which drives round the coast to Ballyvaughan. It isn't much further and is a much more scenic drive.
Oooh, and if you wind up in Ballyvaughan, stop at Monks and have a bowl of seafood chowder for me!
Thank you very much that is very helpful!!
Hello from Wisconsin,
I would go to the Burren so fast it would make your head swim. The Ring of Kerry...I could go into its tourist history and why it is famous, but let me just say, it is probably best seen from a bus, so you can see over the hedges.
The Burren and County Clare have so much to offer the more time you stay there the happier you will be.
Ennis is a city to visit as are all the small places like Corofin and Ennistymon.
