Ireland. September or October?

Which would people recommend?

Based on what parameters?
I visited in October, it was set by spouse’s work trip so no choice, but I kinda would have been disappointed if I had experienced no rain in Ireland. Other than a fluke tropical storm remnant just before my arrival, weather was quite pleasant. I invested in some waterproof knee-high boots before the trip.

When visiting Ireland and the UK, I would always recommend getting as close to the summer soltice as possible. September will be nicer, less rainy, and have longer days.

I would say historically September weather is better than October. But October is not bad either. However, the only predictable thing about Irish weather is its unpredictability.

Having just moved here the end of August, I would say (at least this year and with Ireland weather prediction is hard) that September was still pretty summery. Fall has definitely arrived since we hit October (Temperature-wise. Some rain now but not every day). But lots of layering and de-layering.
