Ireland's Greatest Hits Itinerary - HELP!

My husband and I will be traveling to Ireland in two weeks. We will arrive in Dublin early Thursday morning and rent a car. My husband has to work that upcoming Monday so we plan to return to Dublin on Saturday to do sightseeing on Saturday afternoon/evening and on Sunday in the city. We have never been to Ireland and we just booked this trip yesterday so we are limited on time to research. Are there any suggestions of where we should go, see, and do on Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning before we return to Dublin? My husband is leaving Dublin on Wednesday to Madrid for work and I am returning to the US so we cannot extend our trip on that end. Thanks!

Because you are returning to Dublin, I would drive to Kilkenny or Kinsale. Both are beautiful towns. Kinsale is on the water, I prefer that. The other option I would check into is changing you flight to leave from Shannon. That way you could explore Galway/Clare & fly out on Sat.

I don't know if you have ever driven in Ireland, the roads are better than they used to be but they still aren't like here. It will take time to get around.

Enjoy your trip.

Thanks,

Mary

I second both Kinsale and the Kilkenny area. Both are absolutely lovely. Around Kilkenny we like Jerpoint abbey and Kells Priory. As well as the town itself. We like The Cloister B&B in Kinsale and Lawcus Farm B&B outside Kilkenny.

I loved Kinsale, also. Charles Fort, and the ruins of James Fort. are both worth a look, and I had the best fish and chips ever at a place down on the docks, but I can't remember the name of it now! Kilkenny is a neat little town, and the castle and grounds are nice. While there climb to the top of St. Canice's and get a great view. On the way down to Kinsale try to fit in the Rock of Cashel. A great picturesque old castle sitting up on a hill overlooking the valley.
