My husband and I will be visiting for the first time late July/ early August. After 3 nights in Dublin we will be renting a car and driving to see the sites. We want to see a lot without running ourselves ragged so I am grateful on input. I modified Ricks 21 day trip to fit our time span: 3 nights in Dublin; drive thru Wicklow area and spend 1 night in Kilkenny; drive to Rock of Cashel then on to Dingle for 2 nights; head to Galway area and visit cliffs on way and spend 2 (expensive) nights in Galway visiting Aran Islands; drive to Westport for 1 night; drive to Portrush for 2 nights to explore coast; last night in Dublin to catch 11 am flight. We have 1 extra night to use somewhere. I am interested in knowing if this is too ambitious or just right. We are in our late 50s and fit
I'm not clear that you've included all the interim stops you really truly want to make ("we want to see a lot"). Your list of activities seems to be mostly about driving from A to B and doing something undefined at B when you get there. If that's all you really want to do, you are probably OK if you don't mind longish days behind the wheel interspersed with walking days at destinations. Keep in mind that rural Irish roads are rather slow (for good reason). Assume Google drive times are optimistic. I'd suggest that you search this Forum for "Ireland itinerary" and read the responses. A huge number of prior posters have asked similar questions and gotten tons of advice that you might profit from. Ireland is delightful and you will have a grand time no matter what you see, if you spend some time to enjoy it. Have fun.
