Ireland itinerary, need help figuring out transportation (train or bus or car)

We hope to spend 4 to 5 days in Ireland and leave to London from there.

Our plan is to fly to Dublin from US. Spend one day in Dublin, then one day close of Cliff of Moher and 2 days in Dingle Peninsula, then off to London.

First day: Dublin
Second day: should we stay in Galway to be in Cliffs of Moher area? or some other place? and is this place easily reachable by train from Dublin. (should we rent a car here for the rest of our Ireland trip - as it is we do plan to rent one on day 3 and 4??)
Third Day: Dingle peninsula. sleep in what city?? We plan to rent a car here and use car to explore on day 3 and day 4 in dingle peninsula
Day 4: Dingle Peninsula
Day 5: head to london (where to take the plane from? Kerry Airport?)

Fly in to The Dubs and flyover out of Shannon.

1st option: fly in & out of The Dubs Base yourself out of Dublin - 2 days to see the sights. The remaining time take tours via bus South to the Wicklow Mountains (Powers Court) and bus a bit north to Newgrange. You can get tours on O'Connell Street.

2nd option: fly into The Dubs and fly out of Shannon. 1st day Dublin. 2nd day pick up rental car travel to Galway - then time to stroll Galway & enjoy the sights there. 3rd day Cliffs of Moher & environs. 4th Day: tour Connemara. 5th Day fly out.

3rd option: fly into The Dubs and fly out of Shannon: 1st day: stay at an airport hotel that has shuttle to and from airport (Blewelys is great) after check in head back to airport for bus or taxi into Dublin. Hop on Hop off your best option for optimum day in Dublin. 2nd day go to airport pick up rental car and hit the take the M50 and exit onto the N7 Limerick and South of the N21 to Dingle stay 2nights. 3rd day Dingle - you will have a full day in Dingle if you make it in the night before - 4th day head North to the River Shannon and take the Tarbert-Kilmer ferry and onto Cliffs of Moher - that night stay near Bunratty castle which is near Shannon airport - day 5 fly out of Shannon.

4th option: Fly into and out of Shannon: day 1 pick up rental car drive to Galway City. 2day off to the cliffs of Moher via Ballyvaughn - tour the dolman and Burren on your way to the Cliffs. Head south to Tarbert-Kilmer ferry - cross the River Shannon - stay in Tralee. 3rd day onto Dingle - 2 nights - it will give you a full day to explore on day 4. 5th day: early morning to Shannon for flight out.

To be realistic Dublin alone minimum of 2 days - which is 1/2 of the time you have allotted. Even with the newer Motorways - - driving on Irish roads do take time - even with a wonderful map and Navigator.

Good luck on your decision.

thank you Claregirl for responding.

We are considering flying into Shannon Airport and out of London heathrow.

Our must see sights are Dingle peninsula and Cliffs of Moher area and one day in Dublin. If time permits, we want to see Ring of Kerry too. Any suggestions?

Again we have 4 days in Ireland.

What ever you do, allow yourself enough time in Dingle. We just returned from a month long trip in England, N.Wales, S. Scotland and a whirlwind tour of just 4 days in Ireland. I made the mistake of just the one night in in Dingle (slept in Ballydavid) and kick myself everyday! Wish we'd spent at least 3 nights, but really, I could easily do a week there...gor-geous!

There are about 8 direct trains per day between Dublin Heuston station and Galway, so that's an easy enough option if you don't want to start your drive from Dublin. 2nd-class tickets purchased online at www.irishrail.ie cost about €25 per person on short notice, or can be slightly less if you book earlier, but cost more in the train station.
