Ireland Itinerary Advice for early October

We are a family of 5 adults traveling to Ireland for the first time. At this point, this is the itinerary we have planned:

Date Location

30-Sep Sleep in Dublin

1-Oct Sleep in Dublin

2-Oct Sleep in Dublin

3-Oct Drive to Kinsale (sleep in Kinsale)

4-Oct Sleep in Kinsale

5-Oct Drive to Dingle (sleep in Dingle)

6-Oct Sleep in Dingle

7-Oct Dingle to Ennis (sleep in Ennis)

8-Oct Sleep in Ennis

9-Oct Ferry to Inishmore (stay the night)

10-Oct Inishmore to (stay the night)

11-Oct Go to Shannon (stay the night)

12-Oct Depart from Shannon airport

We are trying to decide whether to stay one or two nights on Inishmore given the time of year. Or, should be skip Inishmore altogether? If we only stay one night the question is; what/where do we add to our itinerary?

We could stay an extra night in Kinsale or in Dingle. Or, we could spend 1-2 nights in Doolin. We definitely want to see the cliffs of Mohr and The Büren. At this point in our trip we will have spent a lot of time in the car so we really don’t want to add a long drive to another town.

We appreciate any and all advice you can give us.!

I wouldn't skip Inishmore, but one night there would seem to be enough. If you're using the ferry from Doolin, you could spend the night of Oct 10 there as a base for the Cliffs and Burren the next day, ending at Shannon the night before your flight home. (I think the Doolin ferry gives you a good sea-level view of the cliffs, a real bonus.) While driving can be slow, the distances on your last days aren't great and the scenery is well worth it.

Given your overall timeframe, I wouldn't add nights in Kinsale or Dingle.

Thank you; this is helpful and definitely the direction we are leaning. I read somewhere that if we are coming from Dulin some of the B&Bs or hotels on Inishmore won’t except us? Is that still the case in 2022 and in October when the weather is more iffy should we be concerned about this?

Kinsale -- Fishy Fishy restaurant - the best of our recent trip! Falconry Experience in Dingle and if you are there on a Monday or Thursday, get tickets for a traditional music concert at St. James (in RS book). We stayed at Dingle Bay Inn and loved it! Good restaurant as well and close to ice cream.

We ate at Fishy Fishy in Kinsale a few weeks ago, the best food I’ve had in our 4 weeks in Ireland and Scotland, so far anyway.

Many B&B’s close down for the season at the end of September or not much later. Have you booked any of your accommodations?
