Hello everyone,
My father and his wife will be traveling to Ireland in early April 2015 (their 60th birthday gift).
I am looking to book them on a guided tour, but would like a tour that focuses on Irish music, which they love!
Any suggestions?
If not a music tour, would love to get other ideas as well. I am already looking ito Rick's tour..
They will be in Ireland for about 10 days (haven't bought the tickets yet so flexible a bit).
Thank you.
http://www.irelandmusictours.com. Rick's 8 day tour sounds good unless they want to experience Ireland on their own and rent a car. I've been to Ireland and NI twice over the years. Both times I chose to drive and very pleased I did. Loved the freedom. Yes, it takes a bit of time to get used to driving on the "other" side of the road and to navigate roundabouts but honestly it isn't that difficult. Merely slow down, watch for sheep and have a good map. I prefer a MAP, not GPS but that's me, old school. Not sure where they will be flying from but I'd suggest an open jaw ticket. into one city and out of another. Thus flying into the West Coast and heading East to Dublin or Vice Versa and departing from Shannon. Besides music what other interests do they have? The West Coast of Ireland and the Dingle Peninsula cannot be missed. Have them tell you what besides music lures them to the Emerald Isle. Ruins? The Titanic? Archeology? Hiking? In my trips the favorite spots were Glendalough, Jere Point Abbey (Rick demises it), Cliffs of Moher, Killarney National Park, Gap of Dunloe, Slea Head Drive, Giant's Causeway, Belfast's Shankill road, Titanic Museum, the Botanical Gardens (which in April should be stellar), the Crumlin Gaol, seafood chowder at Mournes, Trinity College and the Book of Kells, National Museum of Ireland and the quietness of Ardmore on the coast and the ruins of St. Declan's church.
Any of a number of pubs in Kenmare. I'd start with Crowleys on a Tuesday night. It is totally unpretentious, be aware. But Guinness is Guinness, regardless. Then take fiddle lessons from Gill at Kerry Fiddle.
