Ireland in April!

My adult son and I are spending two weeks in Ireland starting April 11, 2017. Neither one of us wants to drive! I need some help with an itinerary in which we can also spend some time in the countryside. I'm struggling with the websites from RS Ireland for the bus and the train. I don't want to stay in Dublin the whole time - day tours are an option but we'd also like to be on our own too. Is there a town on the West Coast that we could reach by train and have some options? We like towns, archaeology, islands, pubs, and a few museums and churches too.

Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted!
Thanks!

Galway would be your best bet. It's about a three hour train ride from Dublin, and from there you can get day tours to the Cliffs of Moher and the Burren, a ferry to the Aran Islands, and tours of the Connemara region.

I agree with Nancy.. Galway would be a great Western point for your travels

Another query: we will be in either Dublin or Galway over Easter. Will there be a lot of closings, what is likely to be open? And will train schedules be affected?

Thank you!
