Ireland clothing question

I'm going to be layering, I know that routine. But I'm just wondering (in May) when going into the pubs at night whether it's quite warm or chilly in the pub. Trying to figure out my middle layers. Thanks so much!

We were on the RS 14 day tour this April 1-20 or so. I would wear a t-shirt, with a light flannel shirt over that. When going out at night, I would usually wear a light nylon jacket over the shirt. Then in a pub, I'd always take off the jacket. I don't remember any pubs being chilly or too warm. Usually a lot of people in them. During the day, I'd usually not wear the jacket, unless it was rainy. Never did take out my litle umbrella.

BarbaraB, thanks so much for asking this question. It's very helpful to me, too, because we will be in Ireland in May. I've been wondering if pubs/restaurants are warm or chilly inside. Good question!

travelerguy, sounds like you had nice weather. So you didn't need a jacket during the day? What were the temps like? I would have expected it to be much chillier in April and that one would need a jacket.

I’m just back from 2+ weeks visiting family in Ireland. I was primarily in Dublin and Galway and enjoyed great weather and more than a pub or two. My packing list here. The temperature in general can vary quite a bit between actual and “feels like.” Light layers and a scarf (I had two with me) can be lifesavers.

We just left Ireland yesterday (primarily in Co. Donegal but also Antrim and Derry.) The weather was unseasonably warm the first few days but went back to more normal temps for the latter half. Layers are your friend. I usually had on a t-shirt or long-sleeved t-shirt, a sweater or fleece zip up, and my rain coat (and sometimes a scarf). I didn't always wear all of the layers though. While we had no rain, the rain coat was super helpful protecting against the wind. In the pubs or restaurants I usually just had on my t-shirt or long sleeved shirt. We did dress up once to go out for a nice dinner and I was comfortable in my short sleeved dress. Hope this helps!

Thanks, Kimberly. I arrived in Dublin three days ago and the layering has been the key. Chilly mornings, a peek of sun, chilly afternoon wind. Lovely walking weather! The scarf is the biggest help.
