Ireland Bus

I have a few questions about bus transportation. I'm arriving at Shannon and going to Ennis. Do I buy a ticket from the driver or is there a machine or what? Do I need exact change? Can I buy a return ticket as I board?

After touring with a group, I'll be dropped at Shannon again and need a bus to Dublin. For a long distance trip, should the ticket be bought online ahead? Does that guarantee a seat on a certain bus? If not bought online, same questions- do I buy from the driver, and is exact change required? I assume buying a walk up ticket will be more expensive? Thanks for any help here.

Hi Laura,

Bus #51 connects Shannon airport and Ennis hourly, taking 20 min., cost €8. Just buy your ticket from the driver. You don't need exact change, but he may not be able to break a large bill. You can get money from an ATM in the airport. If it only gives you larger bills, then buy a coffee or pack of gum in the airport to get change. You can save some money by buying long distance buses ahead online, such as the Shannon-Dublin bus - www.buseireann.ie. I don't believe you have guaranteed seat, but in my experience, it's never been a problem.
