Ireland - 1st Week in October 2017

First time Ireland travelers! Two couples (55+)-arriving and departing from Dublin. 6am on a Monday and need to be in Enniscrone by 5 pm on Friday. Will have Friday evening through Sunday free as well while one couple attends a family event. Flying out of Dublin the following Monday afternoon. Thinking 2 nights Dublin and 2 nights xxx elsewhere before arriving in Enniscrone area. History / general site seeing, local flavor and pubs ....thoughts? And at what point should we get a car rental?

So you have 7 nights on the ground in Ireland total, which is not enough to see the entire country, so take that caveat in stride.

First 2 nights Dublin, yes -- you can see a lot of Dublin in 2 to 2.5 days. Consult RS Guide for prioritizing the sights that interest you most and checking what days/hours your favorites are open.

Don't rent a car until you're ready to leave Dublin. From there you might head to the Dingle peninsula by way of Rock of Cashel and Blarney. Then, not too far from Enniscrone is the Connemara region, which gets high marks from many visitors. It's also near Westport, which was recently judged the best place to live in Ireland.

If you drive back to Dublin airport on the day of your flight, make sure to allow extra time for possible traffic jams and/or taking a wrong turn along the way.

Hope this gives you some ideas!

After October 1 some tourist attractions go to reduced hours. This might be more of an issue outside of Dublin..... but make sure you are looking at current data
