If driving from Ireland to Northern Ireland (United Kingdom)

hey there folks I am from Northern Ireland, so feel free to ask me questions
just wanted to make anyone aware that if you hire a car in Ireland at dublin airport and drive it across the border into Northern Ireland it will incur a charge of some sort from the hire company as well as that Northern Ireland like the rest of the UK drives in miles per hour Ireland drives in kilometres please be aware road signage is DIFFERENT on both sides of the border below i have posted a link to the UK highway code (that is the road rules in the UK ) this version is the Northern Ireland version as the mainland version (the mainland being England Wales and Scotland) has things in it like advice on tram crossings etc and we do not have trams in NI but we do have trains!).

Petrol always used to be cheaper in the Republic of Ireland too - is it still Paul?

Also visitors need to be aware that Northern Ireland uses pounds (and pennies). Ireland uses the Euro.

Not all car companies charge to cross from Republic of Ireland into Northern Ireland. I rented a car from Alamo through AutoEurope and there was no surcharge to cross the border. You just need to read the terms of the contract carefully.

Paul, thank you so much! This is so helpful…we’ll be picking up a car in Omagh in September…just driving to the Strabane/Cavanalee area…I’m sticking to the back roads with fingers crossed!
