2 of us will be travelling to Ireland end of July beginning of Aug. I have reservations in Dublin and Dingle but how far in advance do I need to book B&B reservations for that time of the year in Cork, Kilkenny, Dunromin area? Is it likely to find options if we don't book months ahead of time (or possibly wait until we are actually travelling and decide as we go) or does it get filled up quickly that time of year?
I am traveling in October and have been trying to book rooms in B&B's and getting a lot of already full. I was shocked since October is off season (I was thinking some might be closed in Oct.). You are going in season so I think you may want to secure your favorite places now.
Even if you book far ahead you can still change things if you need to up to a couple weeks before you go.
If you use booking.com you don't have to pay for your room you can just make the reservation. I usually make a reservation with the B&B directly but since I was having issues in some of my locations I had to use booking.com to find openings.
Some people like the freedom of booking as they go and it probably gets you the best price but if you can't get a room in the town you really wanted to stay or the area you want to stay it can be sad.
Another website that is really good about checking availability is bandbireland.com. I then go to TripAdvisor and read the reviews. Then you can go to the specific B&B website to book your room. Just be sure to check on how they want to be paid. Some want cash only. But in our 2 two trips, we never paid until we were leaving. The Irish are a most warm people. I can say that since I are one. :)
