Looking for recommendations for hotel/BnB/etc in Galway and Killarney. We are two couples (70) who are pretty active. We have booked the Arbutus in Killarney and realized it is without air. The rooms with air conditioning are booked. Is this something to be concerned with? We will be spending 3 nights here. Not having much luck with Galways hotels. Don’t want to stay in the student section housing as to the noise. Looking for something in the mid range. We will stay here for 2 nights. Our trip will be the last 10 days in July of 2024.
Thanks so much.
In four trips I've never noticed AC being present or needed, even when it was "hot". We stayed at the 7 Boutique Hotel in Galway last trip and although it is fairly close to the pedestrian area, it was dead silent even in a street facing room. The staircase is pretty narrow. Building is recently renovated and is from the 1500s.
On our 2016 trip, it was 80F the whole time we were there and AC was never thought about. People were talking about needing sunscreen, but never AC.
Many of the older hotels (the ones with a lot of character) don't have airconditioning in their rooms. Newer, specially built hotels probably will. Windows will oipen and many hotles will supply a fan if asked. The British tend not to go for air conditioning in a big way.
The Arbutus Hotel - I remember stopping their in 1966!!! It was wonderful.
I stayed at the Western Hotel in Galway in July 2018. The location on Eyre Square was very convenient. They have a nice restaurant and a pub with live trad music some nights. I don't remember (and don't see on their webpage) if they have AC. It was not at all a concern the July I was there.
