Looking for recommendations for a hotel or b & b at or near Shannon Airport. Any help would be appreciated.
With the disclaimer that it has been 9+ years since we visited Ireland, here is what we did:
We had hired a driver, so we did not have a rental car to turn in, but we stayed at the Bunratty Castle Hotel our last night in Ireland (actually recommended by an RSForum poster when we were planning our trip). Be aware that while there is a Bunratty Castle and a Folk Park right there (and we totally enjoyed our visit to the Folk Park and Castle), the hotel is NOT a castle. It is a Best Western, clean and nice enough...very helpful staff...but does not compare at all to Dromoland Castle or Ashford Castle (real castle hotels).
But, it worked out great for us. We asked for a quiet room (hotel reviews indicated a lot of tour groups stay there). Hotel pre-arranged a taxi for us to the airport the next morning. Taxi was on time/smooth/quick trip.
Seems I recall there are two restaurants right next to the hotel...Dirty Nellie's (I think I recall the name) is where we dined, and food was good for a casual meal. When we visited, there was also a woolen goods shop right across from the restaurants/motel.
If you have a rental car, you could turn in your car the afternoon prior, but if the rental agency is open with plenty of time before your flight out, you could just take that one last final drive. I just Googled to refresh my memory, and it shows it is about 13-16 minutes (depending on route) from the hotel to the airport. And, at the time we were in Ireland, US Citizens clear customs upon departure, saving that step/time upon arrival back in the US.
Enjoy your time in Ireland - we sure did!!
P.S. to prior post
I was off a bit on the spelling of the restaurant in Bunratty. Here is some info re: the history of the restaurant and photos/reviews:

Thanks Maggie. We have actually been to Durty Nellies. We ate there and had a pint when we were in Ireland the first time in 1996. Thanks for the info.
We enjoyed Airport Manor B&B at.Shannon,. walking distance to restaurants and very.c!ose to.the airport, we stayed there twice and very happy with our choice.
Thanks. I will check it out.
It's been several years but the Park Inn is right on the airport. We had an early morning flight so we turned in the rental car the night before and stayed here. It's a short walk to the terminal.
Loved the Carrygerry Country House, I would go back anytime I was flying in or out of Shannon. It is a stones throw to the airport, very convenient.
In the fall of 2015, we stayed at the Bunratty Haven B&B, about a 15-minute drive to the Shannon airport. Nice place, and I'd stay there again if I were looking for a place not too far from the airport.
I too stayed at the Park Inn. We had a car so drove into the town and had dinner at an Indian restaurant. Turned in the rental car after dinner and next morning just walked across to the terminal
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. We have made a reservation in Bunratty.
